Bits and Pieces..Riverwalk, Lasagna Tickets, Adios Mobil

I just got a most inspiring travel report from Patsy.
Makes me want to run up to San Antonio immediately!
Send me your travel finds, with or without pictures, and I'll share.
*********
Hi Sandpipers,
Garland and are in S.A. for Thanksgiving.
We went to the Riverwalk to see the extensions that have been added.
Were we in for a treat! The Riverwalk has been extended up to Pearl Brewery.
They now have a River Taxi so that you can stay in one of the many hotels on the S.A. River, park your car and never get back in it until your stay is over.
There are, of course, many choices of dining on the river.
Since we lived in S..A. from 1968 until 2 years ago, we were not really expecting to be thrilled by the sights on the river, but taking the River Taxi was incredible.
Imagine locks (think Panama Canal) on the river!
The landscaping is beautiful, and you see everything from a new perspective.
The VFW is in an old Victorian (?) house open to the public.
A main attraction there is the $2.00 beer.
San Antonio contracted with 9 artists to decorate their part of the river using sound and light. These artists came up with unique ways to use
sound and light to enhance your enjoyment of the river.
You need to see the river in the daytime and at night,
so plan to your visit accordingly.
Go on a warm, sunny day, eat on the river,
and jump back on the River Taxi for the night art show.
It gets rather chilly on the river at night, so take a jacket.
Even if you've been to the Riverwalk before, you'll be amazed at this new addition.
Plan on about 3-4 hrs. to really savor the sights, sounds, people, and food.

Wow! Patsy, you should work for the Chamber of Commerce!

Did you see the big open space at the front of Sandpipers, by the gate?
Good-bye old office mobil!
Going....
Going....
Gone!
Guess it was a tight squeeze!
******************************************
I hope you got you lasagna Dinner tickets from Tom & Louise yesterday.
It was a blog moment, with a large crowd queued up at noon to
snatch most of the 5o tickets available.Dick was the first in line....
followed by a combo of warmly dressed and hardy souls. We are all looking forward to Louise's lasagna, even Blue!
********************************
Then...on my way back home to the back 40...
DRAMA in the SKIES!
Sandpipers was buzzed by a trio of ultra-lites.
One flew right over the tennis courts. Then exited the park by way of the pool and office.

I know they've been warned not to do this, but I think it's kinda neat to see them...and since it was pretty chilly I'm sure they were disappointed in the "sights"!

They didn't get a peep of us SandPeeps.

Oh...Oh...one last thing...

Do you sleep in the nude?

Inquiring minds want to know!

We run around all day (at least warm ones) in the nude.

Do you slip on PJ's at night?

You have a few more days until the end of the month. Time to get into the fabulous cigar box for free lunch tickets. Any comment, every comment, gets a chance!

Think I'll make a poll......check the side bar.

"One Flew Over The Tennis Courts"

Uh-oh! Here now rises the threat to change the name of our tennis courts to "The Cuckoo's Nest".

Perfect meter, too, right?

FYI: Since you asked, Garland and I both sleep in the nude. Those night gowns and PJ's get all twisted and nearly strangle me during the night. I did buy a pair of PJ's to take when we visit grandchildren. You never know when they might bounce into your room. Garland doesn't bother; he just pulls up the covers until they leave the room.

It does seem funny to think that you might run around in the nude during the day and put on something to sleep at night. I'm in my underwear bra day and night, especially at night (don't want the girls to get in a twist).

John told me when we got married: pj's are for keeping next to the bed in case there's a fire.

Bruce and I sleep nude, if it is chilly we just turn the heat on, one way or another!!

Why would anyone want to DRESS up to go to bed when we shuck the clothes all day! Besides it is much more comfortable sleeping nude.

Even before I became a social nudist I've been comfortable sleeping sans clothes. I can't remember any time since I moved out of the college dorm when I found it necessary to wear PJ's - except when staying with the grandchildren. Louise's story is the same.

We have a heated mattress pad so we don't have to turn up the heat on cold nights... but we agree with Theresa and Bruce!

An art exhibit with an unusual story is on display from now until Jan. 10 at the McNay Art Museum in San Antonio. It is called "Reclaimed Paintings from the Collection of Jacques Goudstikker." He was a prominent art collector in Amsterdam, specializing in 17th Century Dutch art, often referred to as its "Golden Age." When the Nazis invaded the Netherlands in May, 1940, Hermann Goerring was dispatched to seize all the valuable art he could find. Thus ensued a fight by Goudstikker to get his lost collection back. After his death, his heirs continued the battle with the Dutch government, to no avail. Finally, in 2006, the Dutch government agreed to return 200 works from his collection to Marei von Saher, his daughter-in-law and sole living heir. This exhibit includes 46 of those works of art. This recovery is called one of the greatest restitution stories of our time.
In addition to this exhibit, the McNay itself is well worth a visit. Marion Koogler McNay was a prominent woman from Ohio who married and moved to Texas. She left her Spanish Colonial home and personal art collection to the city upon her death. Her collection consists of medieval, Renaissance, and 19th and early 20th century art.
The home and grounds themselves are works of art. It is a quiet retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the River Walk. Many brides-to-be have their wedding pictures made on the grounds. You won't be disappointed in what you find at the McNay.
The McNay is located at 6000 N. New Braunfels in San Antonio. Find out more about this amazing story of restitution and of Mrs. McNay hersrelf at www.mcnayart.org.
You only have until Jan. 10 to see this. You could easily combine a McNay visit with a trip to the Riverwalk. Give your self about 3 days to fully savor both.

Clothes are even more uncomfortable at night than they are during the day!! We definitely sleep in the nude, though I'll admit that if it's REALLY cold I may break down and wear socks on my feet.

I slept with my brother(s) wearing our skivvies until I got married and moved out. I wore no clothes to sleep that night, and have never switched back. Gosh, how long has that been? Let's see now, next Tuesday it'll be exactly ((((34*2/916)+1.93)*75.75)/3)-0.11 years!
