More Recommendations From Patsy.

I wrote about King's Inn Restaurant in Riviera, TX.
Now I want to recommend a whole town that has a great restaurant.
The town is Salado, located on Interstate 35 north of Austin and south of Temple.
*
Salado was once a bustling commercial town in the mid-1800's, was bypassed by the railroad, lost population and businesses, and has come back as a great place to eat,
stay, shop, attend festivals, play golf, etc.
Since it is located right on IH35, you can stop for a couple of hours or longer,
depending on your schedule.
*
My experience with Salado began in the 1970's when we would leave Waco
after Baylor home football games and head south to San Antonio.
We always timed it to eat at the Stagecoach Inn on Sunday for lunch,
but they are open Sun.-Sat.
They have won awards for their prime rib.
The waitperson announces the menu.
On Sun., they have roast, turkey, ham, etc. with all the trimmings.
I love their little rolls and their ASPIC!
Their famous dessert is a Strawberry Kiss (yum).
All of these dishes come with the meal.
The restaurant is in an old stagecoach stop where many famous Americans have stayed.
They have enlarged the restaurant and added a motel.
There are also many B&B's located in historic homes in Salado.
We have stayed in a couple and they were delightful.
*
Other enjoyable activities are:
*
The 49th Annual Gathering of the Scottish Clans; watch them toss the cabre (?--it's a big log), play the bagpipes, and do lots of Highland Flings (If you own a kilt and never have a place to wear it, here's the place; you'll fit right in.) This year it's Nov. 12-14, 2010.
*
December in Salado is colorful, musical, Victorian, and wonderful.
*
The Salado Masonic Lodge is in a historic building and is very active, I hear.
*
For you golfers, there is the Robert Trent Jones II-designed golf course.
The Third Green is heart-shaped as this is, after all, The Heart of Texas!
