VolleyBall -Slight Tweak, Don't Panic!

Water Volleyball is one of the more popular past-times at Sandpiper's Resort, and to that end more days have been added so that we now play seven days a week. Despite some angst about the transition, so far it's been quite successful.
However there have been a couple of...not problems...incidents is maybe the word. Some insensitive comments made, innuendos about playing ability, resulting in hurt feelings. This goes back over the last few years, too, not just recently. Further investigation has resulted in people coming forward with remarks such as, "I won't play any more because ...". You fill in the blanks.
I know, I know...you are saying well, that's their decision, and good riddance.

Now, now, play nice! 'Cause I said so, that's why!

So....
We are adding a day of REGULATION play for all those scrupulous rule followers. Monday-11 am until 2. Co-ed Regulation Play.

And instead of tightening up Jungle Ball Rules...let's LOOSEN them!

Remember, this game has become so wildly successful and popular because of all the laughter.

Don't be in such a hurry to call a wet ball.

Turn a blind eye to the hands that hold the ball just a scoosh too long.

Be a smidge more tolerant of players that aren't quite as good as you.

And for Heaven's sake, let the short little lady who is positioned between two giants play her own ball.

You want cut-throat competition? Play Regulation on Monday. Co-ed JungleBall's rules are much more relaxed and the game should be FUN!

All you "Adults" can play on Monday.

The "Kids" will play the rest of the time.

Right on the money! You're such a good Mom, deftly navigating the murky waters of second childhood.

I would vote for encouraging more patience when someone is fighting to get control of the ball. Don't be in such a hurry "to help" as that person will never develop skill and confidence. It feels good to conquer that little sucker!

I am one of those who has found it no longer to be the fun that I had during the summer. Anonymous criticism of the way I play, going as far as name calling and ridicule for playing as the rules were explained to me. Of course the comments were not to my face, but in "private happy hour" get togethers. The complainers have sucked the enjoyment out of playing at least for me. I was scheduled to give instruction to the Ladies this morning, but after being approached and made aware of the whining anonymous aforementioned name calling, I felt more comfortable not being the lightning rod for trying to be helpful, and getting slapped down for my good intentions. Maybe I'm overreacting to the few bad apples here, but my solution is to wait until spring when the "climate" changes and returning to one of the main reasons I live here. I am truly sorry that I felt it necessary to cancel the lesson, but I have very little patience and tolerance for those who feel compelled to have it their inflexible way. Thank you Sue for the response to the problem, I'm sure it was in part due to my discussion with you yesterday.

For the short timeframe that we were there in Feb. of this year water volleyball was the best thing I enjoyed. I looked forward to the "fun" time in the water, the joking and laughter but did find that there was some very strong instructions as to "how to play the game"...but I just let the water roll off my back...hahahaha. Critisim is the killer of anything especially in a volunteer join in sport like this. I still am looking forward to the workout, sun and laughter that goes along with this game. Thanks Sue for letting us know of the "regulation game" so that the "hard core" stick to the rules members can enjoy a strong game of water volleyball and the rest can enjoy laughter and a relaxed range of water volleyball for exercise fun and being with friends. We are all at this resort for retirement, relaxation, exercise fun and good times. Life is way too short to have feelings hurt by destructive critism which has now resulted in a lost of a "volunteer" instructor for a good cause. Volunteer is the only way to make something like these activities work as with all resort activities so we need to be mindful of the "comments" made in fun or seriously as we are a small community of family and friends. see yo'al soon

"Anonymous" (whoever he/she/they may be) has once again succeeded in disillusioning he/she/those who do not deserve to be so treated. Pity that "Anonymous" does not have the courage to be identified - is this not "underground terrorism" ??

I have been busy part-time job hunting the past couple of weeks and have missed the exercise, sun, LAUGHTER and good fellowship of our volleyball games. Apparently, I've missed some griping too - OK by me.

I'd like to thank both Spideyman Mike and Garland in particular for all the help and kind instruction they have given me in the pool during my Rookie days! I'm no Pro, but because of their good-natured encouragement, I'm confident enough to dare to try inserting myself, at least once, into that Regulation Play scheduled for Mondays.

Yeah!!!!!! Finally maybe because we have inserted the regulation volleyball maybe there will be less pouching in jungle. Balance is the name of the real game. Maybe, it would be nice if everyone remembered that this is our "natural peace". The time spent here should be in harmony! You can "bitch" everywhere but with in the gates of Sandpipers. It is just wishful thinking!! I am certainly sure someone will bitch about this opinion. (Opinion's are like butt holes, everyone has them and they all stink!)

This thread is starting to become intense.
My view is that the next time I play Volleyball I will certainly miss Linda's serve and Mike's everything else he does in the Water Volleyball court.
I truly hope they change their mind and the feelings of enjoyment for the game and the people there come back to them. Till then I will not feel right about playing again.
Can't wait for the spring.

TO ME IF A PERSON HAVE A COMPLAINT ABOUT SOMEONE, THEY SHOULD GO TO THAT PERSON INSTEAD OF TALKING ABOUT THEM BEHIND THEIR BACK.
WE ARE LOSING MIKE & LINDA BECAUSE OF IT, AND THEY ARE GREAT PEOPLE TO PLAY VOLLEYBALL WITH..
I HOPE THAT THEY WILL COME BACK AND PLAY. WE NEED YOU SPIDERMAN.
