Copying Beethoven
The film gives a fictitious account of the final year of Beethoven's life. A copyist is needed to help the Ludwig van Beethoven (Ed Harris) finish his most famous work, the "Ninth Symphony." A woman, much to everyone's surprise, is recommended - a young, but talented student named Anna Holtz (Diane Kruger). Much to the surprise of Beethoven’s music publisher, Wenzel Schlemmer (Ralph Riach), Anna inspires Beethoven to finish his greatest work ever under deadline. The film takes place in 1824 and the production, design, costumes and location are all authentic. Director Agnieszka Holland creates a beautiful picture.
