Crowley Sugar Mill Tour #1
Thanks to Lanny for organizing not only one, but two trips.
If you missed this Friday's trip, you can sign up for next Wednesday's visit.
Check the pavilion list...it might be full already.
That's steam not smoke coming out from the stacks behind our group.
Just one of the many facts we learned.
"Ram" explained the process whereby the jars in front of him went from raw juice on the left to raw sugar on the right with refined sugar on the far right (like we find in the grocery) coming from the Domino plant in Louisiana.
A video showed the history of sugar cane in the Valley.
Emptying sugar cane out of trucks from the field at the mill.
Thanks Pam P., for the great pictures.

As of 8 AM Saturday morning, there are just 15 people signed up for Wednesday's tour. Lanny said there's room for 25 (that's how many chairs are in the room where we met).
The sugar tour/information was educational and interesting. I enjoyed gaining more understanding of the indigenous culture. Thank you, Lanny and Donna, for setting it up.
Long pants and closed toe shoe request seemed questionable as there was no touring of the main plant - we gathered in a room in the main office building.

Perhaps it's just a dress code that applies to the whole plant, at all times. It would be reasonable for any industrial area AND their office areas, I suppose: "no shorts, no sandals".
