Food For the Soul...

There are really good cooks here at Sandpipers.
Even great cooks.
Bernie's cheese or chocolate fondue or Mandarin Chicken...
Bill W.'s BBQ'd steaks, or his prime rib...
or Annie's terrific BBQ sauce.
Barry & Joey's LiverFest...or his brisket or turkey...
Pecan Pie a la Ellen...
So many good meals,
such delicious food...
Brings me to a burning question.
What is the most bizarre, unusual food you've ever eaten?
Mountain oysters?  Ho-hum...so yesterday!
I've been watching Andrew Zimmern and Anthony Bourdain too much maybe..

Ever had Black Pudding?
Fried grasshoppers?
Pig's feet, ears, tails, or eyeballs?
Brains?
Durian?
Balut?  (Extra points for THAT one!)
Leave a comment...I really want to know.

I had a roasted pig eyeball during a Thanksgiving pig roast (there may have been a smidgen too much wine at that point)and I do like durian (Stinky tropical fruit) very much. To me it tastes like almond custard, And fried grasshoppers with garlic are quite tasty, though the legs do get stuck between your teeth. I'd like to try a pigs ear...dogs do so seem to enjoy them....But brains, ummm, maybe not. My father liked them well enough, but ick.

I"ve had the grashoppers, durian in Thailand, but in China we were treated to fried chicken feet!

Monkey brains served through a hole in a circular table. The rest of the monkey still attached.

I see Jim had fried checken feet---they were part of our food list at home (but roasted or boiled) where we raised chickens. Find them easily in China town in Chicago--eat them with one of our Chinese friends.
