Volleyball Rules & Defibrillator Plea.

1) Defibrillator
We have reached 80% of of the donations required
to purchase a defibrillator for the resort,
and would really like to make a push to reach our goal this season.
Anyone who has not had a chance to make a donation
can do so to Terry or Ian at Lot 502.
We are also selling 50/50 tickets,
with the proceeds going to the defibrillator purchase,
and those can also be purchased at Lot 502.
Tickets are $1 each, 7 for 5$ or 15 for $10.
Get yours before the draw on December 31.
The more we sell, the bigger the jackpot!

2) Water volleyball.
In case anyone is not aware, we have designated Sunday as a day when
men ONLY play from 11:00 to 12:45,
and women ONLY from 12:45 to 2:30.
Hopefully the weather will begin to cooperate!
Wednesdays remain unchanged
(women ONLY play from 11:00 to 12:45, and men ONLY from 12:45 to 2:30).

There has been some discussion in the pool and out about the rules - yes, there are a few. Anyone who is not familiar with the rules can see Ian or Terry at Lot 502.

WATER VOLLEYBALL RULES
To find these rules in the future go to the top of the blog, on the left,
and type in "volleyball rules".
Guess what? They'll pop right up! How cool is that?

THESE RULES APPLY:
 The ball can be hit as often as you like
and as often as required to get it over the net.

 Balls which bounce off the pool rim and back into the court are in play.
Balls which bounce off the rim and land outside the court are out.
Balls which hit the railings on stairs or ladders, or the nets or posts, are out whether they bounce back into the court or not.
 Balls that touch the rope
which delineates the court before touching the water are in.
 Balls that tip the net are in play.

 Balls that hit the water are dead immediately.
 Games are played to 21 points, or in the event of a tie must be won by two points.

 If there are only 2 teams, at the end of the game the teams switch sides, and the team who did not win the previous game will serve in the new game.
 If there are 3 or more teams, ALL of the players on the team
closest to the stairs (west side of pool) leave the pool –
the other team moves from the east side of the pool to the stair side,
and the new team entering the pool goes to the east side of the pool.
The new team on the east side will serve in the new game.
 Volleyball hours are 11:00 am to 2:30 pm (except in designated tournaments).
No starting early or playing past 2:30 “to finish the game”.
Wednesday from 11:00 to 12:45 is ladies ONLY,
and from 12:45 to 2:30 is for men ONLY.
Sunday from 11:00 to 12:45 is men ONLY,
and from 12:45 to 2:30 is for ladies ONLY.

SERVING:
 Serving by hitting the ball (with one hand or two) is preferred. However, inexperienced players or those with arm injuries may serve by throwing the ball WITH ONE HAND ONLY. Two-handed over-head throwing serves are not allowed.

 Two or more serves in succession to the same person are not allowed -
if so, the serve will be done over.

 If there are 5 or less persons on a side, you must serve directly to someone - if not, the serve will be done over. However, if someone other than the person you are serving to plays the ball, it will be considered to be in play.
 If there are 6 or more persons on a side, you do not have to serve directly to a person (“slimy-serving” is allowed).

 The ball turns over to the opposing team after 5 consecutive serves.

SPIKING:
 Hard spiking is not allowed in co-ed games.

 Players who touch the white tape at the top of the net while playing the ball will forfeit any point thus obtained.

HOLDING:
 The ball must not be caught or held during play.

COURTESY & ETIQUETTE:
 When throwing the ball over the net back to the server, or particularly when throwing the ball back into the court of play, please yell “ball in” or “ball over” to ensure that people are aware that a ball is coming. Nobody likes to be blindsided in the head with the volleyball, and there is the potential for serious injury.
 When there are enough people to make 3 or sometimes 4 teams, please be courteous and play only 2 games in succession. Team rotation is that ALL of the players on the team closest to the stairs (west side of pool) leave the pool – the other team moves from the east side of the pool to the stair side, and the new team entering the pool goes to the east side of the pool. The new team on the east side will serve in the new game. Playing with differing numbers of players on each team (6 vs. 7 for example) is acceptable to keep teams together and to ensure that no players are left out or have more than their share of playing time.

 Finally, remember that the objective is to have fun!
Please be respectful of other people who may not be as good a player as you are –
give them the opportunity to practice and become good players too!

THIS IS A FUN EVENT, AND TEAMS ARE EXPECTED TO MAKE THEIR OWN CALLS ON ALL MATTERS!!!

Thanks,
Ian & Terry #502
