We have left our gig as camp hosts at Clam Gulch State Park and are now enjoying the wonders of Alaska. The fireweed is dying off so we know winter is approaching.
The beautiful picture attached was taken about six weeks ago in front of an avalanche outside of Girdwood, AK.
The second pic is of Fisherman Les - aka "The Old Man of the Sea."
Our friends are commercial fisherpeople and we went out to set crab pots outside of Homer two days ago. This is some of the bounty we pulled in today - Labor Day Saturday.
These Tanner crabs went soooooo well with the steamer clams we harvested and local wine. And a great rye bread from the Russian community near here.
Tomorrow we are off to the Alaska State Fair to see the 107 pound winning cabbage. Yikes!
So I guess this is as good as any time to let everyone know we are spending the winter in Alaska.
What???
Yes, we are crazy.
We plan to cross country ski, watch eagles and moose, and enjoy the funky little town of Homer made famous on NPR radio by Tom Bodett - the guy who did the Motel 6 commercials - you know the line: "We'll keep the light on."
Homer is a fun town with a severe fishing problem :)
I guess it is the equal of Austin, TX - a little bit weird.
We wish you all health, and sun and fabulous bike rides. And most of all, have some great avocados for us. They are almost $3 apiece up here!

Spending the winter in Alaska?!?!?!?!?! You must be crazy. I had to scrape the frost of my windshield when I went to work today and am already contemplating heading south!
