Peepologist Explores Horse Culture!

Hola SandPeeps!

Jim & I spent this last week exploring the Horse Culture of The Staked Plains, or are they The Southern Plains, The High Plains, or The Rolling Plains...I heard 'em all.

We moseyed up to Lubbock and bought a class C RV...a Winnebago View. Then we high-tailed it to Palo Duro Canyon State Park where we met up with a Gypsy band of horsey enthusiasts to study their culture and ways.
Longhorn Cattle...symbol of the West and many a football team.
Interestingly enough these horse gypsies are recognized by their peculiar clothing.
They attach sparkly jewels and leather fringes to their outerwear...and adorn their footwear with sharp, pokey bits of metal. And scarves? Even with their underwear!
But they do have an undeniable presence!
Even if they do make their horses wear tiaras.
**
One of their strange behaviors is making guests clean up after their un-housebroken horses.

Oh, yes...their horses can do tricks on demand but poop everywhere.

Where is the training, Bob?
After horse-house keeping, Jim and Touchstone enjoyed a calming glass of wine.
Is this why Touchstone fell in love with you, Jim?

Got her snockered?I'm thinking of having a "Name That Butt Contest".
Because of my unfortunate gardening injury I couldn't ride...

so Jim went for both of us.
I'd like to say he mounted with no effort...and rode off into the sunset.

It actually was an engineering feat involving a picnic bench, horse maneuvers and gravity...But he made it and rode the trails...a cowboy!

Gotta git him a different hat.

Like mine.
We ran into George and Pauline on our last night there and had a delicious dinner of venison burgers and other cowboy food.

Cowboys liked wine, right?

On Our Way Home!

After a week of fun...purchased an RV, horse camped with Bob & Catherine at Palo Duro Canyon S.P., met up with George & Pauline there, now we are headed home.
We should arrive back home sometime on Thursday.
As soon as I get back into a routine I'll update with pictures of our adventures and news of the park. I sure miss everybody, but it's fun being on the road again!

Blog Queen on the Road.

Tomorrow Jim & I are headed to Lubbock to probably buy an RV. It's been several years since we got rid of our last one and we are ready to hit the road again. After (if) we buy the class c we have our eyes on we will take it on a test run and meet up with Bob & Catherine at Palo Duro Canyon State Park north of Lubbock.
There are horse trails and canyons and fabulous scenic beauty.
So the blog may be a bit iffy for a week or so.

Yesterday (Sunday), while we were getting our stuff organized at home for our upcoming trip,
a very spirited game of volleyball was playing out in the pool.
One side was comprised of seven women and one token male...the other team was the reverse. Seven men and one token woman.
Any bets on the outcome? You'd be WRONG!

I tell you....after a summer of intense water volleyball play you just can't say there is any difference between the guys and the gals.
They are all GOOD!

Tree Time

The cooler weather is upon us!
It feels deeelitefull!
I called upon my minions to fetch, carry, haul and plant a
Royal Poinciana tree I've been babying all summer. First, you start with a hole.OHMYGAWD!
It took Bill & Jim using brute strength and a pickax to make a dent.

They took turns with sharp spade and shovel to get a decent hole dug.

While Sherry & I watched.

Well, I did point a lot. I'm good at that. They planted, watered, mulched and staked.

We now have another tree in the big green space we call "The Field".
Great job, guys. This is what it should look like in, oh...10 years maybe.

Luncheon Ladies and Goodbye Lovely Shed!

I really hated to see it go.
I loved the look of this shed.
Maybe it wasn't in the right spot, and if I'd had the room
I would have LOVED to have it as a storage shed behind my house.
The space inside!
The windows!
...but alas, twas not to be.
Can't put a size 10 shed in a size 2 space.So, goodbye lovely shed.
I for one, will miss you.
Thanks, John #5, for the pictures.

Calling All Gals Luncheon
Report and pictures from Pam.

It's no mystery why the ladies like to go out to lunch together--good food and good company. This month's trip to Lady Nostalgia was no exception.

Fourteen gals enjoyed broccoli-cheese soup, chicken salad sandwiches, and homemade cake along with the always interesting conversation.

Ladies, you are radiant!

Mystery in the Outback!

We awoke a few days ago to a mystery.
A mystery that continues to perplex and rob us from renewing slumber.
What frenzied animal attacked John & Sue's Ponytail palm?
John found, at first light Wednesday morning, a maelstrom of shredded fronds,
chewed limbs and kicked rocks in front of their home. The dogs were no help, or rather, they helped by taking a whiz on the site.
(No picture available)Resident experts offered opinions.

The limbs were chewed and peeled, and whatever did the deed even left blood behind on the pieces of chewed branch. Those fronds are sharp and cutting.

DNA testing is possible.Perhaps a rabid constipated beaver looking for roughage.
Perhaps a disgruntled, turned away, wanna-be guest looking for revenge.
Had to be deer (This from the paper guy).

Possums with an attitude.

Coons with a grudge.

Whatever, it sure smells interesting! Can anyone say Chupacabra?

Can this be related to the mouse heads (only the heads!) we keep finding in traps under our house? Say it ain't so!!!

Weedstock Revisited!

After delays, postponements and confusion we finally have it organized.
It's time to relive your misspent youth.
On Thursday, Oct 22 we will revisit Woodstock at
WEEDSTOCK 2009

What?

Just what am I talking about?

Weedstock is a glorified work party where we all pitch in together to do a few chores. Remember last week's last minute sod laying party?

Like that.

But with a theme.

Here are the "Rules".

Anytime from now til the 22nd, but especially from 8 am-3pm on that day:

Gather, collect, pull weeds.

Put 'em in a bag.

On the 22nd bring the bag to Tonya who will dump them in her cart and determine who brings the most weeds. All participants in the weed pulling and the yet to mentioned other activities will be entered into a drawing for fabulous prizes! The Tonya determined winner of the most weed category will win a "T" shirt from Sandpipers Resort.

If you don't have weeds we know a few places where you can find some. There is Johnson Grass to be dug up near the tennis court, and weeds on the 300 row.

I am going to check with Karen to map out potential areas of massive weed invasion so on Thursday I'll know where to point you.

(I'm still on the injured reserve list due to unbridled lust for gardening...a pulled muscle due to too-much-too-soon activities. But my finger works for pointing. Which finger is to be determined later.)

Other Activities for Weedstock

Not into weed pulling? How about landscaping?

There are plants to be placed around the new shower house.

There is rock mulch to spread.

There are container plants to move and some to be replanted.

Work anytime from 8am-3pm...then take a shower and a rest, but report back for

PIZZA

WINE & BEER

MUSIC by the Pool

PRIZES

If you are able to help with WEEDSTOCK, sign the sheet in the pavilion so Karen can figure out how much pizza and beer to buy. It's a new list, so even if you signed up on the earlier list, do it again.

If you happen to be moved by the spirit dress accordingly. You will receive much admiration from your fellow SandPeeps if you dress the part at the After Party!

Peace, y'all!
