Questions to Ponder, and Flip-flop Photos.

Lunches on Saturday have started, with grilled brats, peppers, onions, and sauerkraut served this past weekend by Donna & Jon, Jim & me. While we were slicing the buns and arranging the goodies (including the three kinds of homemade cookies from Bev), Donna mentioned she would like to see some healthier side dishes offered.
Got me wondering.
Would you add a handful of carrot sticks and perhaps fresh broccoli to your plate holding a grilled burger? Or would you pass it by and grab a bag of chips...or would you take both? Or is this double cheeseburger sandwiched between a pair of grilled cheese sandwiches and topped off with several slices of bacon more your style? Or maybe you'd be reasonable and have a single burger between your grilled cheese sandwiches and skip the bacon...
Do you feel your arteries hardening?
Onions are a vegetable, right?
I could sure go for a nice salad about now!
I, for one, would like to see fresh veggies, fruit, maybe yogurt offered for lunch. Who can play good water volleyball all stuffed from a big lunch. Comments!?

There is a new project underway in the community room. Sue R. #222 and Ellen M.#412, & Donna K. #220, have cut out and pasted together oodles of cute little flip-flop shapes of colorful foam. The idea is each site will decorate their sandal with picture(s) of themselves, their first names and site number. The flip-flops will then be attached to the wall for a who's who of Sandpiper's Resort. Come by the community room to pick up your flip-flop, decorate it and join in the fun. If you don't have a picture of yourself let me know.
Digital camera, will travel.

Don't forget Halloween is coming...as if I'd let you! And Sue P. won't let me forget. Her very favorite holiday is Halloween...must be by the manic glint in her eye! She has several tricks up her witchy sleeve so plan on attending the Fright Night Festivities to see some surprises.

Offering veggies as well as the traditional burgers, brats, dogs, and chips complicates food preparation. I would welcome the green and yellow and orange and red additions. Too much beef can be too much for my constitution.

While I'm opening my mouth for the first time, allow me to thank you for all the work you put into The Sandpaper. It strengthens our community.

Quarter pounders? I don't think so.
Those sandwiches look like 3 pounders.
It takes 3 pounds in the chest to get your heart going again after one of those meals.

Already put my/our flip flop out for the world to see. Working on that project kinda got other creative juices going. So, thanks for the challenge.

Good thing there'll be lots of good food to help keep our body's engine running. Greens are a good addition. I, for one, would probably pass up the chips. And I might be tempted to eat my meal bun-less. And keeping lots of bottled water in with the sodas is always a good idea-don't you think?

Just want to include Donna, #220, to the list of "flip flop cutters."

As to lunches - what about a baked potato lunch? With salsa and vegies for those strictly healthy eaters and then some yummy melted cheese, bacon bits and maybe even chili for those who wanted to splurge a little. Just a thought.

I vote for adding veggies to the sandwich menu instead of chips, beans and cookies. I usually leave these for Dick to eat and only eat half a sandwich. The bake potato idea sounds good and creative. I also liked the salad bar we had some time ago. That is a hit, especially when it's hot outside!

You might have known we'd get a huge comment response from a food blog!

We are going to offer fruit and veggies at tomorrow's 'Cheeseburgers in Paradise' lunch, in the form of baby carrots, apples and grapes. It's a 'test' offering but from what I read it will be very popular.
