Yes, we still may get an afternoon shower but I see dry land on the horizon. There are plenty of lazy days ahead!
We are going to begin some scheduled events...oh, activities like scrabble and certain card games should be getting organized on a regular basis. Keep watching for the schedule.
Labor Day VolleyBall
Tournament Results!
We had a very successful tournament with 5 teams and 34 players. It was rip-roaring fun and impressive competition. Most games went right down to the last few points, with several going into overtime.
The winning team was made up of Lisette #15, Jay#120, Jim#38, Bev#514, Karen #322, Mike#421, Stan #330. They each received a breakfast/lunch ticket to spend during the coming season.
They sure didn't need to spend those tickets at the pot-luck dinner last night. We have the BEST cooks! Lisette is compiling recipes during the winter. If you got rave reviews for your dish please send her a copy of your recipe. There were some extremely delicious dishes on the counter. Did you try Mariana's creamy fruit pie? It's going in the book. Did you like those spicy Buffalo Wings Like Hooter's? I sent the recipe over to Lisette. Come on...let's drown her in great recipes! Bob H. How about those thick dark beans...got a secret recipe?
Later there was a pool party with music under the stars. How nice to work up a sweat dancing to the good stuff and follow it up with a cool dip, sans suits. That's just about the best part about living here...no wet suits.
I need some input soon! With the soap opera involving he-who-shall-not-be-named just about over what am I gonna talk about?

Oh, there is always something...like the T. Rex at UTPA until Jan 4. Yep...a giant 42 foot fossil named Sue. I did not make that up.
Sue is the largest, most complete dinosaur fossil ever discovered. She was found in South Dakota in 1990. After several years on display in Chicago's Field museum she has now hit the road. For the past 8 years she's been a traveling lizard and this winter will settle down in Edinburg.
The university spent $95K to bring her down here, with local McDonald franchises picking up the $75K tab for promotion (they didn't pay me to say this).
You can visit Sue at the visitor center from 9-5, Monday-Friday. You can visit me any time.

School is in and my son the Lil'S%#$t has joined the Football team and Competition Mariachi.
No schedule of when his games or his preformances will be but I will be sure and post them here.
For cheap entertainment look to the schools or University for Productions of Plays, Concerts,or High School Football.
Where was I going with that....
Congradulations to the winning VB team. The game was pretty exciting.
Garland made a few announcements for future games.
What were they again?
There are sign-up sheets in the Pavilion for possible activities for Sept-Oct. If you are interested in playing or learning one of these games, please sign up. This is a great time to refresh your skills or learn a new game, because the pace is slower and there will be experienced players willing to share their skills with you. There is a sign-up sheet labeled "Other" in case there are other activities you would like to suggest. Don't be shy! Come out and play and be ready for the Winter Season.
