That’s our Annie in the photo. She had just put
the ball in the cup on the 14th hole at Terra del Sol golf
course. Here’s the story.
This was during the 2017 FITS (Fun in the Sun) Scramble Golf
Tournament on February 13. Annie was on Team #6, with Bob D, Tom
B, and Bev (Natures). In a scramble, each person hits, then you
take the best ball (with some restrictions) and everyone on the team hits from
that location for the next shot. This continues for the entire 18
holes of the tournament.
When our team reached the 14th hole, Bob and Tom
hit their balls into a row of trees alongside the cart path. Bev
hit his ball well down the course, stopping about 5 yards short of the lake you
see in the picture. Annie’s tee shot was short so we chose to use
Bev’s shot for our second shot. Each of the men hit and we had
three dry balls near but not on the green. The shot across the
water was about 85 yards and the GPS reading for center of green was 110 yards
so there wasn’t much room to play with. Annie took her shot
last. She hit a fine shot, arching high over the water, it landed
just short of the front edge of the green. It bounced several
times and then rolled across the green, curving slightly, toward the
flag. As it reached the cup, Annie exclaimed, “The ball
disappeared!” Indeed, it had! Annie had put our
second shot on the par four hole in the cup for an eagle, 2 under par for the
hole.
That put us at 4 under par for the tournament with only four
holes to go. We bogeyed the last two holes and completed the
tournament 2 under par which was good enough for a first-place finish.
Each member of Team #6 received a coupon for a free round of golf, thanks
to Annie’s shot of the day, 110 yards and into the cup!

Wow Tom - your explanation was exceptional - we all know that was a whole lot of luck with that shot - a good time was had by all!
