A Sunday at Sandpipers

Yesterday was a "happening", a gathering of lovely ladies determined to have a good time and maybe learn a thing or two.

We attended a Pure Romance Party!

Carleta and Maria were wonderful hostesses, and provided us (and the 'us' was a good 35 to 40 women) with wine and snacks.

Before the party a bunch of us met at Carma's where we prelubricated ourselves...liberally. Jon (H-less) and Bob were true cabana boys and waited on us with much enthusiasm.

After a sufficient amount of courage was on board we trooped over to Flip Flopz where the trained consultant, Claudia, put on a show.
In a tasteful fashion we learned how to spice up our relationships, oggled the array of cremes, sprays and lotions, and yes, laughed at the battery powered "toys"!

It wasn't lurid, it was fun.  There wasn't any sales pressure either, just a bunch of friends eating, drinking, and talking together with support, empathy, education and enthusiasm.

What a nice afternnon, Hope you were there!

Final Bike Ride Schedule

We've had a few weeks of canceled bicycle rides.  As a result, I'm modifying the bicycle ride schedule as follows.  Please note these changes on your calendar.

On Tuesday, March 31 we will do our feature ride, Laguna Atascosa.  This is a ride on the scenic loop at Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge.  We'll ride about 14 miles, most on pavement and a few miles on gravel.  The ride is fairly level with only minor changes in elevation.  We eat lunch at an overlook on Laguna Madre and an expanse of the interior of the National Wildlife Area.  Pack a sack lunch with drinks and any snacks you want.  Birds and wildlife are usually abundant on this ride.  We'll depart Sandpipers at our usual 9:00 a.m. time.

I have a busy schedule on April 7 that includes graduation for the Texas Master Naturalist Class of 2015.  For my own sanity I am not going to try to do a bicycle ride on that date.
No bicycle ride on April 7.

We'll end the bicycle ride season with a ride on South Padre Island on Tuesday, April 14.  This is a 12 mile ride on paved surfaces with little or no elevation change.  The ride features views of the Gulf of Mexico, a look at the resort and residential portions of the island and lunch at Blackbeards Restaurant along the route.  You will need a bicycle lock to secure your bicycle during lunch.  Sunscreen, extra water and insect repellant are advised.  We'll depart Sandpipers Resort at our usual 9:00 a.m. time.

That will conclude the 2014-2015 bicycle rides.  We look forward to seeing you in the fall for another season of exploring the Rio Grande Valley on two wheels!

Last Olympic Update

Hello Everyone.  The 16th Sandpipers Nude Olympics is now over and it is one for the record book.
There were 280 medals given out to 90 different Nude Olympians.  A new record.
There were a total of 1041 entries in all the events.  A new record.
There were 37 events.  A new record
There were 51 competitors in the golf events.  A new record.
There were 42 competitors in Wii Bowling.  A new record.
There were 44 competitors in Bean Bag Toss.  A new record.
I can go on and on as most events had record number of entries.  This one will be hard to bet, next year.
I want to give a special thanks to all the folks who helped with the events, the Nude Olympic Committee, everyone who helped with setting up and running events, who helped set up and take down table and chairs.  A great big thanks to Jon who was always there to make sure things were on time and running and for taking care of the announcements and Awards Ceremonies.  I also want to thank Steve for his radio announcements and Sue Z for her keeping everyone up to date on her blog.  Charlie and Peggy for running Pub Nite, thank you.  To anyone else that helped with scoring, judging, refereeing, picking up softballs, footballs, Frisbees or just came to cheer on the players, thank you so much.  Jay and Karen thanks for all your help with prizes, equipment, scheduling and taking care of what ever we needed to make this a great event.  A very special thanks to my wife Carma.  She is the best and kept me in line and on task.
The Sandpiper community is the best there is.  This place is special to us and we hope to be back next year and do it once again.
The dates for the 17th Sandpipers Nude Olympics are March 16 to March 23, 2016.   So keep these dates in mind and get your training started.
For those who are traveling soon, stay safe, keep in touch and don't forget to PLAY NAKED any time you can.
Best wishes,
Bob and Carma

A Couple of Issues

First...what the heck is going on with this fruit fly invasion?  Hundreds, nay, thousands of the little buggers are appearing like eyeball floaters in my peripheral vision.
Bummer.
I have cider vinegar traps all over the house, hide my fruit in fridge or microwave, and still they appear.  Like satanic beasties.

And...
unless they have filled the craters, don't go down 3127.  At the intersection, by the gas station, there are deep. DEEP potholes.  Tire busting, rim shattering potholes.
Makes the park roads look smooth by comparison!

That is all.

March 23, Olympic update

Good Morning Everyone.  Today is the Z Field Day and the first ever Iron Peeps Competition.   The Field events start at noon in Z Field so to watch or play come on by.
Now some info for the Iron Peeps event.   This event will start at 2 PM and everyone who wants to compete in this event will meet under the shade awning at pool side at 2 PM.  For this event you will need to bring your own towel to cover the weight bench when it is your turn.  The event will start on the road at the basketball court and then you will fast walk to the sidewalk at the north end of the pool and continue on with a fast walk to the weight bench under the shade awning.  There you will do 15 bench presses and then continue with a fast walk to the pool where you will jump in the shallow end, touch the side, go across the pool and touch the other side then back across and touch for the finish.  There will be a men's and women's division.  It will be by best time.  This will be a great event for crowd support so bring your cheering section.
