The Book Thief – Marcus
Zusak (Sue Z informed us that a movie is being made about this book.
Note from Karon: The following is the
synopsis from the movie.
The Book Thief is a film based on the
popular young-adult novel written by Markus Zusak. It is being adapted into a
movie. The plot is set in Nazi Germany, and stars Sophie Nélisse, Geoffrey Rush
and Emily Watson.
This film is narrated by Death, and
it takes place in Nazi Germany. The main character, Leisel Meminger, is given to
foster care at the age of nine. In foster care, she steals her first book. This
begins her infatuation with novels and reading. The family she lives with hides
a Jewish boy during their time of war, and it carries you through the journey of
Leisel and her book obsession. Readers and book lovers can identify with Leisel
and her plight, but the film also paints an extraordinary picture of youth in
Nazi Germany and what life was like to those who had to struggle through the war
and times of hardness. It’s a touching film that is created by the same studio
as The Life of Pi, and it is guaranteed to be a breathtaking and adventurous
film.)
