SandPaper #3

The third installment...are you enjoying reading these?
  I sure am!

June 14, 2007
Things are hopping here at Sandpipers. Everyday brings a new work crew or project online. There is a long trench dug by the north fence where electricians have been working all week to bring the electrical connections up to code. Can casitas be far behind?

The tennis courts are in the middle of a complete overhaul. All the messy Mesquite trees are gone and the surface has been patched. The tennis court lights are burning late into the night as crews apply the new surface coatings.

The 600 row resembles an ant colony with workers scurrying everywhere. Today (May 24th) there are 25 trucks expected thru the gate! Loads of caliche are being carried by huge earth movers who have a little trouble negotiating the turns. In fact, Jim and I were talking with Karen at 7am up by the gate as the first few trucks came in. Good by sago palm near the mailboxes! Almost good by mailboxes! Karen jumped on her bike and tore after the driver. I wouldn't have wanted to be in his shoes! That whole row should be finished soon, with landscaping plans already being finalized.

Bids are out for more of the big construction jobs, and the way Karen and Jay are working, they should be started soon.

Traveler news: Aloha! Bill & Sandy, Bob & Sue are off to Hawaii for a couple of weeks. Tom & Ellen are to be Corps of Eng. camp hosts up on the Columbia river in Washington this summer. Bob & Bev are being snowed on in Colorado. And here's something really worth noting! You all know Dave & Sandy Junkin are avid birders. David is a licensed bird bander. He caught a previously unknown bird in his backyard net last summer. It caused quite a lot of excitement in the birding community, with extraordinary attempts to identify the bird. Take a look at the this! Junkin's Warbler...

He has a bird named after him!! The article is from the spring 2007 issue of Living Bird magazine. Right now they are up in Adak, Alaska...brrr!

Still playing two teams of volleyball, but it's getting thin. 15 players yesterday. And a real crowd showed up for petanque...3 hardcore players!

Still have plenty of copies of 'Air, the Musical'. Send $5 (or 4$ pick-up) to lot 38 here at Sandpipers and we'll mail you a dvd. It will help fund next years production.

More as it happens...
