John & Mary's trip to Schulenburg

John and I rode to Schulenburg, Texas on Thursday to visit the Painted Churches. The driving tour was very scenic and historical as well. In case you are wondering where is Schulenburg, it is located on I10 and Hwy 77.

There were 5 Churches that were on the tour:

Dubina,

Ammannsville,

 Swiss Alp,

High Hill

and Praha.

The brochure we followed gave an historical synopsis of each community that was established dating back to the early 1800's. The communities were settled by Germans, and the Czechs and the role each played in promoting the City of Schulenburg.

At each Church we spent time viewing the interior stenciling, paints, frescoes and stained glass windows, pausing to spend time in prayer and then strolling through the cemeteries. Many tomb stones dated back to the 1800's, recording those who served in the various wars, those who were awarded medals as well as a section of the cemetery reserved for infants and children.

Thanks for the pics. Reminds me of my family church where we had all the paintings and stained glass windows.
