Back to The Real World

We're back!

It was a long day Wednesday of almost missed connections,
too many Bloody Mary's to help smooth my ruffled nerves
(we flew out of Orlando and you KNOW what that means!
M-I-C-K-E-Y )

Cruise was great fun.
The food was too tasty...I gained THREE pounds!

Every morning we would order room service for a carafe of coffee and our first breakfast...smoked salmon for me...then later indulge in Bloody Mary's, brunch or the Lido deck buffet.

All the Sandpeeps melted into the ship and we only ran into each other occasionally (mostly in the casino...Hi, Mary!)

The weather was lovely until the last chilly day.  Inside the ship it was cool...sweaters came in handy.

The Panama Canal tour was the most interesting we did,

followed by a short tour of Portobello

with lunch.  See that little bowl?  Snails!

Our formal night picture looked GOOD!

As soon as I get unpacked, organized, etc...I'll catch you all up with Sandpiper Resort news...including a change in how to leave comments on this blog.  We are being completely swamped with computer generated spam.  You only see the tip of the iceberg if you read the comments!

At the Panama Canal... it takes 8-10 hours to traverse the 26 miles, plus wait-time at the locks, and tolls are based on the value of the cargo. The small tanker on the right paid a toll of $80,000 and the larger freighter on the left paid $143,000! The narrator at this observatory said this cost is a savings of 20-30 TIMES the expense of going around the southern cape, plus the extra three weeks to do so.

After the canal, some of us skipped the Portobello portion and instead enjoyed nude time at a fine beach on the Pacific coast side. The water and the weather were ideal for a gorgeous beach visit. Perhaps someone has pictures that Sue could share on here?

Pacific coast? WRONG!! It was the Atlantic side, of course. Dummy! :-(

Thanks Dave, GREAT info! We were at the 'nude' beach for awhile but it was so disorganized that we went on to Portobello. I guess they got it all straightened up after we left.
