It's Wine Time!

Bob & Bernie do a great job educating us with wines from around the country and the world.
Sunday, Dec 12, at 3 PM, we can share our wine discoveries
with them and each other.
Bring a favorite or new wine...
or one with a crazy name or label!
and perhaps a yummy little nibble to share.

Don't Forget!

Going shopping this week?
Please remember to pick up some non-perishable food items for our ADOPT A FAMILY.
Drop them off at Lot #5

Wine Class Info

Greetings Sandpipers:

Bernie and I will arrive at Sandpiper Resort
about mid-day Sunday November 21st.

We will start to take money for reservation in the three classes in January, February and March later in the day.

January's class will be Indiana's wines
and we have collected several good examples for this class.

February's class will be wine with Mexican food with some very delicious dishes created by Bernie and her future staff.

The last class will be Port wines of Portugal.
Where else would they come from?

We have some of the Ports that came from producers in Porto
who we visited last fall.

The cost is $10.00 per person per class
or a total of $30.00 per person for all three.
There will be a limit of 40 in each class as in the past.
We plan to have a table at the December Junk and Java.

We are looking forward to seeing
all our friends at Sandpipers shortly.

Bob and Bernie

On The Road in California, enroute to TURKEY!

We are in Santa Ana, CA, visiting daughter Melinda, before we all take off to spend Thanksgiving in Turkey.

Cute, eh?  We'll be in Turkey.
No turkey in us!
Her yard is a work in progress...and what progress since we were last here!

Roses in bloom everywhere, intersting succulents, endless daisies!
Love it!
 Look at these colors!
 Gorgeousness!
 Is that a word?
 Well, it fits.

Too bad you can't smell this!
And I love the tapestry that succulents make.

Such color and texture!
This is a new one we just added a few days ago.

Swoon!

If it wasn't for the freeway traffic,
 the crowds,
the prices,
the congestion,
 the earthquakes...
well...
let's just say it's near perfection.

Defibrillator Contribution

From Terry #502
We want to thank everyone who has made a donation to date...
we are getting close to being able to purchase
a defibrillator unit for the resort.
Those who are new to the resort, or haven't yet had a chance to make a donation, and would like to contribute,
can do so to Terry at Lot 502.
We are also considering a 50/50 draw, or any other ideas someone may have, to push us over the top and make the unit possible.
*******
Jim & I are on our way to Californy to visit with daughter Melinda before we all fly off to Turkey.
Turkey for Thanksgiving...do you see the joke!?
We'll be in Turkey, no turkey in us...or something like that.
As long as I have email I can update the blog.
Don't panic if I am silent for days at a time...
I still love ya' more than my luggage.
Name that movie!

From Ian:

WATER VOLLEYBALL UPDATE

Water volleyball will move to seven day per week schedule beginning on Tuesday, November 9.
Volleyball hours are 11:00 am to 2:30 pm (except in designated tournaments).
No starting early or playing past 2:30 “to finish the game”. Wednesday from 11:00 to 12:45 is LADIES ONLY,
and from 12:45 to 2:30 is for MEN ONLY.

For those who are new to Sandpipers volleyball, or who need to refresh themselves about the rules, the rules will be posted outside of Lot 502 (kitty-corner from the workshop).
Please stop by and review the rules, and if you have any questions (or comments or ideas) the coordinator (Ian) will be happy to discuss them.

Now a couple of thoughts about courtesy & etiquette:

 When throwing the ball over the net back to the server, or particularly when throwing the ball back into the court of play, please yell “ball in” or “ball over” to ensure that people are aware that a ball is coming. Nobody likes to be blindsided in the head with the volleyball, and there is the potential for serious injury.

 When there are enough people to make 3 or sometimes 4 teams, please be courteous and play only 2 games in succession. Team rotation is that ALL of the players on the team closest to the stairs (west side of pool) leave the pool – the other team moves from the east side of the pool to the stair side, and the new team entering the pool goes to the east side of the pool. The new team on the east side will serve in the new game. Playing with differing numbers of players on each team (6 vs. 7 for example) is acceptable to keep teams together and to ensure that no players are left out or have more than their share of playing time.

 Finally, remember that the objective is to have fun!
Please be respectful of other people who may not be as good a player as you are – give them the opportunity to practice and become good players too!

Soup Night Sadness

It's time for soup and what do I find in my mailbox but the sad, nay the disturbing news that
Mary has NO ONE TO HELP!
It's disturbing because...
other occasions have also occurred with
little or no help stepping forward.
*
For instance..
Bill needs help setting up the coffee service for Junque & Java.  That's ONCE A MONTH!
Jon helped Bill when he wasn't scurrying around setting up tables, moving chairs, dotting "i's" and crossing "t's"...
But c'mon Peeps, volunteer already!

November 16th.
 Soup Night
Looking for volunteers to make soup, and dessert.
Mary #5 is more than willing to work with you and answer any questions you may have.

Thanks, Mary
**
Soup Night is to raise moola for Adopt-A-Family.
Do you like soup?
Who doesn't like soup?
So volunteer already!

Looking Forward....

To whet your appetite!

Just a heads up!!!!
The Fabulous Don & Vanessa Fish Fry
to support Adopt-A-Family is coming.
 Watch for details!

MiniTen Reschedule

Because of conflicting schedules (can anyone say "Beer Fest"?)
The MiniTen tournament will NOT be started today.
Further info as it comes to me....
Here are the latest pairings....
Not as pretty as the charts John #5 sends to me
but they just won't cooperate so I had to do a little editing to get it to work.
Well....it's bigger anyway...
Any questions direct them to John #5.
