Beer Tasting Report & Manly Suggestion

First I must report on the mighty fine time we all had at Bob & Bernie's, Sue & John's
annual Oktoberfest Beer Tasting (to be followed by the Spring Equinox Beer Tasting, and maybe the See-Ya-Later Alligator Beer Finale).
*
It was very well attended as usual, by die-hard fans with a thirst for beer knowledge,
which we got from the Punctilious Perfessor of Puerile Prose.
*
The amount and variety of beer was amazing!
Look at John's fridge!
Tonight the Perfessor is leading a party of explorers to Art Walk,
an adventure extraordinaire!
Meet your intrepid hosts at 5:30 in Roosevelt's
(ask John for directions if you are interested...but the once-a-month Art Walk
is in Old McAllen, on Main Street
and Roosevelt's is a block or so north from cross street Hackberry.)
*
It is a VERY cool thing to do on a mild night.
Great strolling, people watching, street theater...and street booths!

Patsy has raised an interesting thought:
*
"'It has been suggested from time to time that we invite or encourage men
to participate in the Book Club and 'Calling All Gals' luncheon.
Since this is the beginning of the 2009-2010 season,
I thought it might be a good time to address this.
I will state my position up front.
I am against both proposals.
My reasons follow.
*
Both of these activities occur once a month.
These are really the only times that just women from the park get together.
At Book Club, we talk freely about the book and our feelings about it.
This often leads to people sharing their past lives and experiences.
Through the Book Club, I have gotten to know many women here in a more intimate way.
It has led to closer friendships and understanding.
*
As for the 'Calling All Gals' luncheon, the reasons are similar.
We often eat at tea rooms and more 'girly' type places.
The lunch conversations center around 'woman' talk.
Some attendees shop or go to a movie after lunch,
maybe even a movie that their significant other would not want to see.
*
It might be a great idea for men to have their own book club.
They could read the type of book that they prefer.
They could also go out for breakfast or lunch together once a month.
Garland once suggested that the men could go out for breakfast together
and then go to a gun show or something like that.'"
*
Good thoughts, Patsy.
Opinions? Anyone?
tap, tap, tap..
is this thing on?

Street Strolling & People Watching, HA! Just wait til ya see the photos we took whilst Street Strolling & People (read, Girl) Watching on Duval Street at Fantasy Fest, Key West last week!

Patsy's comments about men joining Ladies' functions are SPOT ON! Why do we suppose it was named "GALS' Lunch" anyway? To suggest that men join them is equivalent to suggesting that women attend stag parties... what red-blooded male would agree to that?

I agree with Patsy and Garland. Ladies (and men) need their special time together, and it's an enrichment of life for all.

Just reminded me of an email I got several years ago when the Red Hat Ladies were going strong. This was a bunch of guys wearing baseball hats that said ROMEO - Retired Old Men Eating Out!
