Adopt-a-Family Begins

I haven't done much with the blog this summer 'cause I've been having a difficult time healthwise.  Blew up like the StaPuff Marshmallow Man for some reason and had to get treatment with a follow-up here at home.  Still not back to normal, but getting better.

Here is a lovely message from John & Mary:

This morning John and I had the luxury of time to sit and watch the Pope’s visit to the White House. We listened attentively to the Pope’s message as he reiterated to care for the poor and the marginalized. That was when we realized that that is exactly what you as members of SPR are already doing.
You give of your time, talent and money to make Christmas more meaningful to the less fortunate families in the local area. For this we thank you. It is very humbling to know that we are truly following the teachings of Pope Francis.
For this John and I would like to express our since thanks for your support as we begin our Christmas "Adopt A Family" Program.

Drifting South, Slowly

Rain all last night, all today, too.  That said we have a couple of recommendations if you are in the area.
Camp Lakewood, Effingham, IL.
Best wifi in forever, and a gorgeous spot. Full hookup. Good Sams...$34.
Wooden deck patio, no neighbors, overlooking the lake...in the rain.

More rain when we woke up.  Drove all morning to the Sikeston, MO area.  Town & Country RV,  Great wifi, Full hookup.  Another Good Sam's...$25.00 with free pick up to Lamberts Cafe.  Paved sites so the rain is no problem.

Tomorrow we head south at our snails pace.

Latest from the Hoosier State.

Glorious weather here at Sunny Haven (well a hint of rumble and a little drizzle a few days ago, but mostly sunny and warm (not hot!)

We celebrated Catherine's birthday last night with a surprise coconut cake and Dick & Sharon's lovely, creamy homemade ice cream.

The food has been spectacular...grilled chicken, smoked ham, grilled brats and burgers, spaghetti...and all the trimmings you could ever expect.

Pool in the afternoon, hot tub when you get cold, petanque, scrabble, wine tasting, wine drinking....did I mention the wine?
Bob & Bernie have outdone themselves with his homemade wine...it's terrific!

Almost every day somebody goes to the local market, Martin's, which is the best you've ever seen!  Even beats HEB!

Tomorrow we'll all head into different directions.  Jim & I are headed back to the valley to Dr. appointments...gotta fix what's wrong with me.

Labor Day Weekend

A bunch of Sandpeeps are gathering at Sunny Haven for the long weekend. It's warm (87) pool is 85.

Food is being organized 'cause we ARE here to eat and drink.

Bob & Bernie are bringing samples of his own wine.

Tonight is pulled pork, coleslaw, baked beans...and it just gets better all week. Barry (Joey) is going to smoke some ham!

Last year here I did a header out the door of the RV, bruised some ribs and got to play the invalid card for awhile.

This year I truly am an invalid.
Swollen legs and sick all summer long.
Got some heavy duty diuretic from an internist friend of Dr. Bob and am slowly, SLOWLY, getting better.

Bets are being taken as to when I trip over a hose or cord. My legs are still in bad shape so I'm being super careful!
