On the Road-July 14

We are roaming around the Black Hills
from campsite to Walmart and back again.

Our GPS quit working, Jim bought a new one at Walmart, then the old one started working again, he took the new one back.

Credit card company thought we were crooks.
  Had to straighten that out.

On the road again toward Custer S.P. You guessed it. The GPS died again. Enough already for today. We found a campsite in Custer...last one in a large CG. By 1 pm it was full.

So I have my nose buried in paper maps, and Jim's ear, the one on my side, apparently doesn't register my speech. So we get lost alot.

Walmart (again) tomorrow. Oh, and it is supposed to rain tomorrow in our favorite place, Spearfish S.D.
(that was sarcasm...we got hail damaged there once).

Plus, he is trying to freeze me out with the AC.

What else can I complain about?
Give me a minute, I'll come up with something.

News From Karen

Just in case you aren't in the habit of checking Karen's notes, here is the latest...

Where is the trash can?

We had the trash can moved over to 306/308 area so that we can get the front gate opened up and the fencing fixed. We hope to have the fencing on the 300 row up by the end of the week and immediately following the front fence area started. Now that we have been almost two weeks with out rain, have had nearly 100′s everyday as well and the wind blew last week from 15 – 30 mph things are finally drying up. Many of the homes here need to be washed down from the green mold. Please coordinate your plans through the office. We want things to get cleaned up and we have a couple of new guys on staff to get the resort clean up in full speed ahead mode. We hope to get the concrete work done as well by the end of the month so that the road work can begin. If you need to discuss any of your site plans, please give us a call. We will try to do our best to be accommodating. The bathhouse floor fix will also happen by the end of the month. That means it will be closed down for a week or so. Details to come as the rest of the plans fall in place. Please watch this Members Only Site.
PS. WE ARE BUSY PUTTING THE CALENDAR TOGETHER…..WE DO HAVE LOTS OF OPENINGS FOR A FUN IDEA FROM YOU. PLEASE GIVE US A CALL AS SANDPIPERS ACTIVITIES ARE THE BEST BECAUSE OF OUR GUESTS. Let’s keep our reputation stellar!!

4th in Kansas

We are celebrating the 4th in Kansas at Prairie Haven.
Gorgeous weather.
Lots of food and fun by the pool.

There was an auction of food and goodies this afternoon and we made a killing on an Amish basket of goodies.

I didn't have a sarong with me...no problem, the office GAVE me one! To Keep! And I love it.

Wifi is strong, TV a bit weak, but not their fault.  Just limited programming.

Rabbits keep running by our RV.

NO BUGS!

And they have the coolest beer cups.  A keg by the pool, with a donation, got you beer til you bloated and white cups that turn blue with cool temps.  How fun!

The Weekend of the 4th of July

We are at Prairie Haven for the weekend.  Lovely...wooded, charming and friendly, and no mosquitos.  We've been here in past years with Phaleta.  She is still remembered fondly as "a great old gal", but hasn't been here for a couple of years...and when her son brought her a few years ago she was unable to participate.
I still miss her.

The weather has been a disappointment to the locals who were looking forward to hot and sunny, with games and fireworks.
It drizzled all night until mid-day, and it is chilly.
Tonight is expected to be 62.
 Sounds good to me!

Oh boy, the sun is out and it is warming up a bit  Gorgeous!

Touring...

We spent the last day or so at Fort Griffin State Historical Park in north Texas. Great little park in the middle of nowhere. About 50 miles east of Abilene on Hwy 283.

Nice RV park, Texas's official herd of longhorns.
Full hookups, affordable. Part of the Texas Trail of forts.

We got to use their golf cart to do our fort tour..lot's of Indian info, buffalo soldiers, fort life.  What a rough life they had. Soldiers got 3 meals a day.  Beef and bread, or bread and beef...every meal.
And when the baker deserted they only got beef.

 Tomorrow,  Prarie Haven in Kansas.

We felt we'd better find a perch for the 4th of July weekend.

Say, is it still raining?
When I check my weather aps it looks ominous!
