Do you LOVE wine?

Bob & Bernie sent this out to all wine lovers on their list....
but maybe you others,
you-not-sure-if-I-like-wine others,
just might be interested...
so, here tis:
********

Greetings Fellow Wine Lovers:
Summer has less than a month to go, so it's time to be thinking about the Winter season at Sandpipers. Bernie and I have had a rather lazy summer as she is slowly recovering after her cancer.
She has been doing a lot of sewing
and I have been doing a lot of maintainence here in Kokomo.

We both did judge wine for the Indiana State Fair.
This year we both judged amateur wine
 instead of commercial wine.
Believe it or not, there were
several excellent wines among the amateurs!
We did visit a couple of wineries here in Indiana with Jon and Donna earlier and visited Bob and Catherine
a couple of times. We are looking forward to being
at Sandpipers this late fall and winter.

We plan to arrive in the later part of October,
early enough to attend the halloween events.
We are preparing for departure for the 'Sandpiper Reunion' at Sunny Haven this holiday weekend.
A lot of Sand-pips are going to attend this event
here in northern Indiana.
***
We will be hosting the "Wine Appreciation Classes"
at Sandpipers Resort for I believe the eighth year.
We are already collecting wines and recipes.
We decided to have the following themes:
***
December 11th @ 3:00 PM
   Flip-Flopz
 'bring a wine to share'
(some wine you like a lot or discovered in your travels, etc.).
This event is open to everyone who brings a wine to share.
Please bring a simple wine snack if you can.
 No other charge for this.
***
January 8th @ 3:00 PM
Flip-Flopz
the first class...
South African Wines!
We will have several wines from South Africa.
 I have purchased several already.
South Africa is a up and coming wine region
and several very good wines are appearing on the US market.
The cost for this class is $10.00.
***
February 12th @ 3:00PM
Flip-Flopz
Appetizers and Tapas with Wines
Bernie has several recipes for the Appetizers and Tapas and we will have some interesting wines to pair with them.
The cost for this class is $10.00.
***
March 18th @ 3:00 PM
Flip Flopz
Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay.
We will sample 4 or 5 of each type
to determine what style or brand you like the best.
This class cost $10.00.
*****
Please note that the first three events will be on the second Sunday of the month, but the March event had to be scheduled on the third Sunday due to the Winter Olympics wrapping up on the second Sunday.

We will be taking money and reservations shortly after we arrive at Sandpipers for the winter. Payment has to be made to confirm your reservation and classes have in the past been sold out. We also try to maintain a waiting list in case plans change for those of us.

Enjoy the rest of the summer and have a great fall. Bernie and I are looking forward to seeing all of you this winter.

Hugs: Bob and Bernie

Update on Venue for Rocky Horror Meeting.

On Thursday, Aug 25,

4pm,

Flip Flopz

there will be a preliminary planning meeting for

the most outrageous...

the most cool...

the most fun happening...

An interpretation of

The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

to be performed during the

Halloween Week Extravaganza

*****

This is NOT Happy Hour
 (but it's always 4 o'clock somewhere,
so bring what you want to drink if you wish)

This is a serious, oh-so-important meeting.

There are several,

many,

an ungodly amount,

of parts available.

Try to watch the movie, if you can, to see the costumes, and see if you'd like to play a weird, very weird part.

The original movie Fame also as some scenes from the movie,

so that's another option to watch.

****

So if you think this might be something interesting

come on over to Flip Flopz and get the skinny.

If you aren't back in the park yet,

and you are saying to yourself...

"Hey, Self, I want to play, too",

don't worry, we'll find a spot for you, perhaps.

Bribery is always an option.

Sounds like fun, no?

P.S.
It has actually RAINED this afternoon at Sandpipers.
A deluge...
.12 so far!
But there is thunder in the air so we are hopeful for a bit more.

Movie Review, The Help

What better way to spend (another) 100 degree day
than in the cool movie theater with good friends,
a tub of popcorn and a terrific movie.
John & Sue, Jim and I just returned from seeing The Help,
a great movie from a great book by Kathryn Stockett.
The movie did not disappoint...it followed both the story and the spirit of the book..it made us think.

In fact, it made us reminisce about our own personal experiences growing up.  Our prejudices, our memories, how and why we think the way we do.

Go see it.  It's not just a chick flick!

Bill & Annie & Barry & Joey's Most Excellent Adventure!

Bill & Annie,
Barry & Joey
(Being GDT'S...extra points if you know what that means)
visited the lovely Minnesota town of Red Wing,
to enjoy camping, each other's company and
especially the eagle population.
In Wabasha they toured the National Eagle Center,
sighted both adult eagles
and young birds, too.

Barry with an eagle on his mind.....badda bing!
See, they liked the joke!
Thank you, thank you. I'll be here all week.
Look at those bottles, will 'ya!
No wonder most are smiling!
This is an after dinner sampling of port at Treasure Island Campground in Red Wing, MN.
Smile, Bill.
